Winter school and symposium

Perfection in solids does not exist! It is well known that properties of solids are defined by their imperfection rather than their perfection.

The Winter school on The Physics of defects in solids will comprise of various topics
spanning experimental and computational means of studying the nature, theory and role of defects in solids.

We envisage lectures at an introductory level covering various topics
to be selected from thermoluminescence, phototransferred thermoluminescence, density functional theory,
photoluminescence, raman spectroscopy, fabrication of alloys, photon upconversion and, synchrotron radiation.

The school will be of interest to students and established researchers involved in the study and application of defects in solids.

The venue of the school will be Eden Grove Blue Lecture Theatre in the Eden Grove Building on Lucas Avenue at Rhodes University.
